Megha health insurance Scheme is the universal health scheme in the state of Meghalaya. The government launched this scheme with an objective of providing the health insurance to every person living in the state. MHIS was launched by Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on 15th Oct 2012.
In earlier two phases of the scheme total of around 3,46,548 people enrolled in the insurance scheme. Still approx 3.40,000+ houses are to be enrolled under third phase.
H.M Sangpliang, CEO-MHIS announced the tentative date of launch of the Phase III is 1st March 2017. Meghalaya’s Department of Health and Family Welfare have invited the quotations for Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) and Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme from various insurance companies.
RSBY only covers the BPL families and in which approx 70% are senior citizens. Under MHIS Phase III Rs 30,000 will be allotted to the beneficiaries. Only People enrolled under the MHIS will be benefited. Duration for the enrolment process is four months (March to June).
Official said “Results of the scheme will be seen if people will enrol in the scheme and also encourage others for the same“.
MHIS Phase III, RSBY and Senior citizen Health Insurance Scheme will be launched in all the districts of Meghalaya. There is no age limits to enrol in the scheme and pre existing diseases will also be covered in the scheme.
Beneficiaries will have to renew their benefit card on yearly basis by paying the nominal amount.
